Ive been wondering why pre war sporting rifles are usually springfield 1903s and not RIA 1903s.

Rock Island went out of production about 1919-1920 and put all the tooling into storage. Any Rock Island action used as the basis of a sporter would probably have been from a used gun. Back in the day, a person could buy a new barreled action or a National Match or other target rifle or a NRA Sporter through the DCM. Those came from Springfield.

Which war? ;-).

Before world war one when both Springfield Armory and Rock Island Arsenal were running there seem to be more Rock Island sporter's.
