#215, LaBantchni Maker USA: A Custom Big Game Rifle by Jules LaBantchni on a Model 400 Brevex Magnum Mauser Action in 416 Rigby with a 24" barrel with a stippled 1/4 rib with 1 standing & 1 folding rear sights, Barrel band sling eye, Front ramp that is stippled, Integral recoil lug on the barrel 3" forward of the receiver ring, An adjustable trigger that I believe was made by Sako, Deep belly magazine with a straddle hinged floorplate with a center bow release, Sliding safety on the receiver tang, A checkered & engraved bolt knob, Claw mount scope bases with 1" rings, A mounted Leupold 1.5 x 5, Proved in Belgium as a 416, The floorplate & trigger guard have full coverage engraving with 2 rhino that was cut in Belgium, A very nice custom stock by LaBantchni with excellent color & contrast, Shadowline cheekpiece, Point pattern checkering, Trapdoor grip cap, It is glass bedded at the action recoil lug & the barrel recoil lug, 14 3/8" LOP over a 1" pad, 9 lbs. 13 oz. without the scope and 10 lbs. 11 oz. with it mounted, The original blue remains at 95%, The original stock finish is at 94% with handling marks only, The checkering is at 99%, The bore looks like the day the rifle was finished. Here is a serious African / Alaskan Big Game rifle priced right with a Magnum Brevex Action worth half the price. The past owner said this is a very accurate rifle.
Mr. Jules LaBantchni was well known in the Hollywood area where he built and worked on a lot of guns for the actors in the early post-war era. He was a doggone good stockmaker, gunsmith, engraver, shooter and a musician. He worked at Pachmayr's and later finished a lot of custom rifles to order for many famous clients.
