Here are some picture of my recent sage grouse hunt.

David

1. Sage grouse season opens on Oct 1st in Idaho and I am getting the trailer ready.

2. After 110 miles of 2 lane highway I am just North of Howe Idaho, The oil road stops here and the next 50 miles are gravel.. Note the cardboard on the front of trailer. Truck is 45 years old and the trailer is 40 years old. Me I'am over 40 also..

3. Major Idaho highway junction. The gravel road has turned to dirt and boulders and there are no road signs, I could get lost out here.

4. Same road junction with Mount Borah(12,662 elevation) in background. That is the direction I'am going.

5. This is the upper Pahsimeroi. This area was frequented by Idaho gun writer Elmer Keith, he spoke and wrote of it often.

6. The hills in the background are where the locals tell me that Ernest Hemingway made "The Shot" he wrote the story for True magazine and it appeared in a 1951 Issue, and in other publications.

7. This is how I arrived at camp. The cardboard saved the front of my old trailer.

8. Idaho Fish and Game hard at work.

9. My camp, Elevation is 7000 + feet and the weather changes here are swift and violent. In 1954 I shot my first antelope in this area. The area behind the pickup truck is Chukar country and not for the weak or sane person.

10. Daily bag limit on Sage Grouse is one bird, and two in possession after the first day

11. This is what they look like. They blend right into the habitat and you can look straight at these birds on the ground and not see them.

12. Old DH Parker and I had a great time on the Pahsimeroi. It has changed very little in the 60 years I have been coming here.

13. After a few days, a good cloud burst and the threat of a hail storm, I turned tail, and headed for home. I never really leave the pahsimeroi. I simply retreat...

Congrats and looks like a darn fine hunt to me. That's a beautiful gun as well. I will be leaving in two weeks again to hunt them over in MT on closing weekend. I will be taking my Dickson with me. Trying to get one to mount in as full of breeding plumage as I can get. They are real pinny when I hunt them in Sept.

Although I'd driven by the road leading up the Pahsimeroi off HWY 93 a few times, the 1st time in the Pahsimeroi valley was a couple of years ago, elk hunting. Beautiful country! I hope to get back down there again one of these years.

Looks like you had an enjoyable trip and hunt.

What's the old car in the driveway?

If I'm not mistaken that's an International Harvestor truck. Where do you get parts for it, like brake linings and clutch parts. I imagine if you had too, you could machine parts but I'm curious about everyday parts that you expect to wear out.
Steve
PS I'm guessing that's a 47 Ford in your driveway? I can't see a big problem getting parts for it, they were a lot more popular than IH's.

I have a '64 Int'l C600 Pickup in my barn. I drove it until the 80's. 152 4 banger, 3 speed non synchro trans. It's the step side short bed model.
I have some spare parts.

They are pretty durable, made of simple parts. Seals, etc. are otc. Brakes on mine are Ford, distributor, Delco. Carb 1 bbl Holley.
Int'l bought systems from others and assembled them. So, the run can have mixed parts.
The piece most valuable is the radiator core support. That big stamping in between the headlights. Very rare. However, the Travelall of the same time period used the same piece.

Scrap prices are so high, the old trucks are disappearing from the bone yards around here.

I had Scouts as well. 2 and 4 wd. They were not that good.
I've had every piece apart to repair or rebuild on my Int'ls, so if you ever have a question, PM.

Out there doing it best I can.

I've rebuilt a few Internationals over the years and have always liked IHC...here's my last body off restoration, a 1948 KB-1....I do all my own work, including the paint and body work....labor of love I guess......I put a 350 4 bolt SB and Turbo-350 3-spd, '68 Dodge ring and pinon/pumpkin in this one, smooth as silk @ highway speeds....got tired of pulling the side plates and adjusting valves on the Green Diamond Six..........

Doug

Apparently the software has a picture limit. I copied and pasted your last three pictures.

Thanks for posting!. Really enjoyed the story.

David,

Thanks for posting that. Always good to see how others hunt. Very different from our forests...
