Ken, Homer Koon was a friend of mine. He hunted with me at our(my family)farm, and we belonged to the old gun club here. He died several years ago. Before he started the Alpha Arms Co.(very short lived), he started the Ranger Arms Co. here in Gainesville, TX. I have the first rifle that was sold to the public. My Dad signed up for it(it was a done deal before hand!) at their Grand Opening. He gave it to me for my college graduation.

This is my first attempt to post images so please bear with me. I copied these pics from Ivory Beads web site a couple of years ago. I think they speak for themselves. I believe the gun was listed for $7000.

Wasn't Homer Koon also credited with the design of the Snake Charmer? I had two of the Alpha I's in .308 and a Grand Slam in .300 Win Mag. They were all tack drivers, especially for light weight rifles. I regret to this day passing up on a Alpha Custom in .284/.264.

Nice looking gun, is that original blue? The butt doesn't look original though, or at least the E I'm after has a hard buttplate and the F looks to have a spacer.

I assume the recoil pad and spacers were later additions. Wish I had the gun, but the pics will have to suffice. How could I have made the pictures show up directly in the post?

I think he had something to do with it. Not sure if he designed it or just built them.

Nice work, Mr. Hurst. Makes me have strange thoughts about my model 17, that would be unhealthy to the family budget!

I am not sure that your post is correct. My dad and Homer were good friends as well and I grew up hunting with him and his family. Dad was his attorney and gave the first production rifle to dad, it is a .300 win mag, serial #101. Now your post may be correct in that what you have is the first gun made available to the public, but I do not think it is the first production rifle. I also, have an Alpha I and 4 Omega III's. I would be happy to trade information with you when you have a chance. Also, he did in fact design the snake charmer.
