Have any of you used Bill Gillette as a gunsmith? I need some trigger work done on my favorite SxS hammergun (doubling) and his shop is only a few hours away. I will ship to someone else if needed, but I always try to do my business face to face.
Thank you in advance.

If it's the same Bill Gillette that ran Big Ridge Gun Shop in Hilton NY & previously Spencerport NY for years, he had a good reputation then doing all sorts of gunsmithing.
He sold that property and moved down South, Followed the Trap, Skeet & SC shoots around doing gunsmithing on site as I recall. Didn't know he was still at it and had settled down in Fla.
Walt Snyder knows him if it's one and the same.

He is a fine fellow, and if he is still working, he is too busy with competition guns to take on much work on old hammer guns. "A few hours away" would indicate that you should try elsewhere. I would not have gunsmithing done by Mr. Gillette unless I were face to face with him and could take my gun home that night.

If the hammergun is your Husky you might try Mark Beasland in WI. Mark posts here regularly. http://www.mbabllc.com/page/page/7927803.htmMike

I do know Bill although I have not seen him in some years. Always top notch in my book. Eightbore, why do you say "I would not have gunsmithing done by Mr. Gillette unless I were face to face with him and could take my gun home that night."??

Walt, Bill Gillette is a good friend, but spends weeks and months on the road catering to clay target shooters. I don't know when he is home and wouldn't want my gun to be waiting for him to get there. He may bring a raft of Krieghoffs home with him that have to be finished "yesterday". He works on my Krieghoffs "today" but only when I am face to face with him. Bill Murphy
