Hello Guys

I have a Oberndorf Model B (hell of a beat up but shootable) in 7x57. It is fitted with a Parker Hale #6E reciever sight - this one has an alloy body. As it left the factory it had a tangent sight, but this is long gone, and if you think Lyman #36's are rare, try finding a replacement tangent sight !!

Since the rifle is dated 1910 I'd love to understand what the "correct" reciever sight might have been . . . lets say it was probably fitted by the 1930's or knowing Kiwis's it would have been drilled an tapped for a scope.

Also what is the difference between the Lyman #48 and the #57 in resepect to those intended to fit a Mauser 98.

Thanks - Foster

The Lyman intended for Mauser installation had a lower bar across the top since it didn't need to avoid the action bridge of an 03. I don't know the dates on these variations.

Speed's book "Original Oberndorf Sporters" will have lots of sight info if you can find a copy. I'll look tonight (can't now) and post what I can find if someone doesn't in the mean time.
