Looked at a really pretty, light weight, Sauer and Sohn 20 ga today. Obviously a high grade gun--full coverage engraving, mostly scroll, with 6 gold inlay birds. I have no idea if the engraving was original. Krupp Stahl barrels, Greener Crossbolt, no sideclips, and a Grip Safety. Flat back action. Proofmarks included the word "PRUSSIA" next to a crown with three lobes or separate sections above the headband. No indication of an importer.
Can anybody venture a guess at what I was looking at? I can't even estimate the age, although the "PRUSSIA" should be some kind of clue. The grip safety really stumps me, as I have not seen one before. The gun does not seem particularly "Germanic" to me. Very petite, my first thought on seeing it was that it was a custom Fox. Grateful for any thoughts, guesses, etc.
