I have posted some pictures of this gun up before, but every time I pull it out of the safe I am in awe of the engraving. I thought I would try and get some good pics of it with the digital SLR.

According to Graeme Greener: The Gun was sold new in 1883 at the Paris Gun show. It was a best grade gun, the only better gun at the time was a Royal grade.

It was one of a pair - I dont know where its mate is. I have shot sporting clays with it using 1 ounce 2 1/2 inch nitro shells.

It was stamped nitro proof at some stage.

She locks up very tight, but shows signs of lots of handling and use. I often ponder the stories she could tell.

It shoots flat and does kick up at the front a bit - probably good for birds on the rise?

Anyway, hope you like it up close.

Roy:
A truly beautiful Greener! I have a 45-guinea gun sold in Paris in 1886. Not quite as ornate as this. but has a similar rib inscription. The shooting world will see it soon. What is your gun choked? I wish we could find No. 1.

Interesting that W.W. chose 4 Iron barrels for what was obviously a showcase gun. He wrote in The Gun and Its Development

"Fine Damascus barrels, as manufactured by the Belgians, are occasionally made from four or six rods together, but three are sufficient to give a very fine figure. The true English Damascus barrel is prepared from three rods, twisted as described and put together as shown in the twisted riband, and is known technically as three-iron Damascus."

An 1875 Greener with a similar 3 Iron pattern

I sometimes toggle your posts to see if you've contributed anything useful, Joe. Just now, like most times, I'm sorry I bothered. Perhaps you're just envious that the bloke is allowed to shoot lead at ducks (and what a season!) through his nitro-proofed damascus in Victoria...

What's the wood on it like, Roy?; some higher grade Greeners have surprisingly plain wood; some lower have especially nice timber...

When are you bringing it to a Vintagers shoot?! 21 Aug at Lilydale is the next shotgun, unless you've a rifle you want to play with at Little River on 19 Jul; there are a couple of pretty serious Greener enthusiasts who could probably tell you a lot about it...
I could run wall thickness/bore gauges through it if you feel a need to know...

Just told the truth....and that's not a best grade Greener by a long shot.

Really? After consulting the records and looking at pics Graham Greener seemed to think it was a best...

Mate, I dont get knotted up about what Joe says. I accept any value he gives is probably a conservative value, and any faults with a gun will be pointed out. I take what Graeme Greener says about the gun as truth and that is what I will take as the real story unless someone has records that suggest otherwise.
I suppose when all is said and done, I bought the gun for a price I was happy with, and since using the gun - I continue to be happy with the deal.
I actually agree with some of joes comments - like she was rode hard - yes, this gun has seen use. I wouldnt want it any other way. What is a gun without character and a story?
The wood on this gun is OK but quite dark from oil. I just love the way it handles, and shoulders.

21 August I could probably do! But the 410E would be the shooter.
