He says this is an NID, but I never saw an NID without the step down sided receiver. The closest profile of the receiver, to me, appears to be a Western Armsb but the gun has checkering and the wavy engraving on the barrels at the breech. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=233379582

I suppose it's possible. Ask him for a serial number. It looks as though the receiver could have been ground or filed down before it was received the crappy bluing job. Personally, I wouldn't touch it at half the price.

Nitro Special that has received some unfortunate "custom" work? I'd agree, this is a 100 dollar gun if you can just take the parts you need, $75 if you take the whole thing.
Best, Ted

Definitely an NID; all the screws, pins, and trigger guard NID appropriate and not at all consistent with thoe of the old Nitro Special. Looks like someone got carried away with their rust eradication project and filed away the frame side radius profile; I hope no unsuspecting shooter falls for the bait!

A ruined gun. Shame, another classic bits the dust.

Ah ha, now I know. The cheeks got sanded down in a refinish, so he just made the receiver flush with the wood. LOL
