This rifle has been in progress on and off for the past couple of years. The back half is now complete and the barrel blank is on it's way here. Looking back, it is a project that has been at once challenging, fun and consuming. Timing the hammer with respect to its stop on the action top, hammer safety notch, tumbler relationship, and firing pin was probably the most ticklish aspect of the job. Sorry I forgot to put the trigger in, as I just finished the lever catch. Chambering will be for .450 3 1/4 Jim Westberg

That looks beautiful! Some amazing work.
Whose barrel and what sort of twist are you putting on it? A .450 3.25 seems like a brutal cartridge unless there are elephants that need attending to..
What sort of sights will go on her?
Brent

Brent, Jim Dubell at Delta Gun Shop made the barrel from drawings of an original Alex Henry bore. Twist is 1-36. Not bad turnaround time, it took just over a year. Jim

A 1:36 will be, indeed, a dedicated BPE. Wish I could see that up close.

No that's the way a marriage of wood and metal should look and be. A great job. I wish I could find someone to do that kind of work for some of my projects.

Brent....you asked about sights. They will simply be mates to the originals as will the barrel exterior. Mike....Thanks...Some aspects of making the action and especially the lock/hammer made me question my sanity. Stocking the thing was actually fairly straight forward with the exception of the "crooked" lock. There is only about .050" of wood between the outside of the tang mortise and the bottom of the mainspring mortise. Somehow I managed not to go through! Jim

I've been impatiently waiting for my baby actioned Alex to be rebarreled for a little over 2 years now. One of these days he'll get it done. This is one of the reasons it's taking awhile.
