While taking apart an Ithaca NID for the first time a small 1/2" spring few out while removing the trigger plate. I always take digital photos when taking a gun apart so I am sure I get it back together but this spring fell out as I was opening it. Now I can't figure out where it goes. It's not one of the sear springs.

I'm sure others will be around with a difinitive answer but if the NID is similar to the Flues you should have a round "plunger" type piece in the center of the action. It holds the top lever open. It should have a hole in the middle for the spring. In operation, the spring pushes against the floor plate to push the plunger up when the lever is pressed to the right and the action opened thus locking the lever to the right until the action is closed.

There is also a recess in the floorplate that receives the other end of the spring. You have to eyeball it close while putting the plate back on, making sure the spring is in the recesses.

That is correct.Look for the small matching counterbore in the trigger plate.
Looking down into the hole/slot that the spring goes in, you will see a U shaped plunger that the spring rides on.
You have to put the trigger plate back on with the action upside down to keep the spring in place.
