I will be travelling to Spain in April and am interested in visiting the Sapnish gunmakers in Eibar. Can anyone provide some insight in how I could do this? Also, on how to purchase and import a gun from Spain?

I've had Detrich Appel (German Gun Collectors Association), act as my importer, through New England Custom Guns of New Hampshire, when he was still the owner. New England Custom Guns is importer/distributor/dealer of AyA guns and other pricey, but good stuff.

Get a copy of Terry Wieland's book Spanish Best, revised second addition, published by Countrysport Press. It's a useful and complete reference, will answer most of your questions, and should give you a good feel for what to expect on your trip.

I would stay in San Sebastian, take a half hour bus ride to Eibar after calling the makers you want to visit and making an appointment, If you have a gun you want to buy or have made, take a BATF form 6, and get the serial number so that you can start the process of getting it. Good hunting Don

Years ago I did this. It was a great experience with zero probs.

I needed a Form 6 and a Form 1, both of which are easy (and probably downloadable now). One key to state is that you're importing for your own ownership and use (not resale). The gun had to come to a FFL possessor.

To maximize convenience and minimize the FFL person's effort, I wrote a simple letter he signed, making me his agent for the purpose of picking the gun up at customs and delivering it to him directly, for the transfer process.
