Being originally from Illinois, I've always known pigeon shooting had been outlawed there. I'm assuming it's a state regulation, it came about in the late 70's or early 80's if memory serves. There was still a regularly shot pigeon ring outside of Chicago up until that time.

I shot hand thrown birds once in Selma, Al. An assiatant DA was there (her son won). She said it was legal as long as all the betting was straight up between the participants. I would love to do it again!

A question, why invent your own pigeon ring with wobble trap machines? Wouldnt a zz bird Helice setup be better? Also are you men doing a pay out of some kind like with old tyme live birds and rings? Gas is almost $4 per gal and that might bring in more shooters.

Cherry Bomb,

Thanks for the interest. If you have a ZZ Bird set up that you'd like to give to our club we would be grateful. smile

If you had read the entire post you would have seen the thanks paid to the Sagola Township Sportsmans Club who host the famous Upper Peninsula Side-by-Side Classic.

Those fine sportsmen allowed me to photograph their pigeon ring setup. Our pigeon ring is a but a copy of that of our northern cousins. Thanks once again Sagola!

Our club investigated ZZ Bird and found the set-up cost and targets to be cost prohibitive> Then tried the clay target ring which was so popular that preparing the witness( a cotton ball hot glued under the dome)became so labor intensive for volunteers that they whent awol, and so did the tournements, and the very nice club revenue. We always felt that if the target manufactures could place a heavy paper disc inside the target dome at time of moulding this clay pigeon ring sport would take off.We had shooters waiting over two hours to shoot 10 targets, turn around and line up to do it again. They make specialty targets now for sportiung clays, add one more.
