Hello all,
I've been lurking here for awhile but this is my first post. I'm interested in English doubles (only) and have been learning bits and pieces over the internet and from some books that I purchased.
Anyhow, I was wondering if you all could recommend a few sources for cartridges? I'm looking for low-pressure 2 1/2" 12 bore loads. Thanks in advance.

I second that. You could shoot your kind of guns the rest of your life exclusively with RST cartridges, but throwing in some Polywads now and again will keep life spiced up. Both stupendous makes of ammo for vintage guns.

I'm not sold on the Gordon shell system but the price is fair and quality is excellent.... I would look at these.....Perhaps Madonna is right Italians do it better.....?

Thank you for the suggestions. I've just explored both web sites, as well as dug up some old discussions on this BBS concerning those particular brands. They both appear to be quite suitable.
Is it best to make purchases directly from the manufacturers? Or are there preferable (online) retailers?

I think some (or all?) of the the B&P short/low pressure loads do not conform to the Gordon System, but I also don't think it makes much difference in practice. Need to read the fine print for each load, as I recall. I started using B&P in my Brit hammer gun with laminated barrels, and they seem to work just fine. Bought some for a 16ga Damascus hammer gun, but have not shot them yet. B&P seems to have a definite price advantage over the competition if you catch their sales and get their free shipping. RST is the most flexible and the most genial.
There are also Kent Gamebore short/LP loads, but can be hard to find and expensive. Galazan used to sell them. Armusa (Spain) makes some nice short/LP loads, but no current U.S. distributor that I know of.

I've just now checked out the B&P website. Are you all referring to their "High Pheasant" product? It is the only one I could find at 2 1/2". The price is enticing, $80.95 with apparent free shipping. http://bandpusa.com/hunting/high-pheasant-117.html

Gartenmeister, welcome. You might want to consider reloading. It really isn't the "money maker" itused to be, but it is a pleasant and productive passtime once you get a ways up the learning curve.

Are you all referring to their "High Pheasant" product? I have not used the High Pheasant. I think mine are all F2 (Subsound?). Can't check now because they are stored offsite (black helicopters and all that stuff). Kaltron lists pressures for some of their loads, and they will give you pressures for their other loads if you call them.
