I belive my little 20 Ga. Charles Daly, was made be DeFourney - mine has a 1936 Blegian Proof mark.
Where do DeFourneys rank in Belgian Guns ?
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.

"Where do DeFourneys rank in Belgian Guns ?"
They, like most all makers, supplied a range of original quality grade guns. Quality grade for quality grade and current condition for current condition, I believe you will find that their guns fall in Brand Value level four; 1/4 the fair market price of a BV1 (Boss, H&H, Purdey, or Woodward) gun. There are a few Belgian makers that have achieved BV3; 1/2 the market price of comparable BV1 guns.
Note/remember, the maker's name does not define the original quality grade of the gun.

A friend owned a de Fourney gun that I should have bought when he (inevitably) sold it. It was every bit the equal of an English best gun. Spectacular. It sold for 1/2 the price of a comparable Boss.

There were several DeFourneys producing guns in 1936. There may be a trademark on the gun. Perhaps a G and J with crossed guns or the initials AJD that may help id which one produced the gun.
As others have said, they produced a range of quality.

Thank you all for the information - sounds like a respectable name, and the gun is very nicely built.

I am not sure that DeFourney made any guns for Daly, but maybe I am wrong. I have one made by the Belgian firm of Masquelier, maybe that's who made yours. Does yours have some marking that lead you to think DeFourney?

ChiefShotguns, it has been suggested that the gun may have been made by Francotte or Maquelier, even Neumann, but sunday at the Market Hall Gun Show in Dallas, I found an Identicle gun that was made by DeFourny - engraving, location of the screws etc.
It is off getting a pad put on it now, I will examine it closely when it comes back. I think it was marked with the G J letters under the ejectors.
Chief do you have a picture of yours I could see ?
