I'm sick. Way down at the bottom of my stomach.

Not even something I want to discuss, but after 120yrs of faithful service, my Ford needs a new forend. I have the old one and metal bits in perfect shape, but need the wood.

Can someone suggest a gunsmith that can reproduce a beautifully checkered forend? I don't want to say I'm looking for a rush job, but this is my favorite weekly shooter. Please help me make her whole again.

Sounds like something bad happened mate.
Well at least you still have the Iron, that is a big plus... I'm sure there are many people who can get her up n running,& folks will be along shortly with names for you.
Just curious as to how old you might be, after shooting the Gun for 120 years smile
Just tring to lighten your mood, perhaps badly?Sorry HG
Good luck...you will get her fixed
cheers

Thanks mate - I knew, as I was writing the post, someone would make the joke. I smiled then and smiled again now. It's the only thing to smile about in this whole d*mn situation.

Try Jerry Andrews. He has built me two forends from scratch. One for a 20 gauge LC Smith 3E and one for a A P Curtis gun that I do not believe was ever put into production. Had the busted forend which he dupicated. Wood matched both guns perfectly, fast and reasonable. Here is a link to a Forum he started.

The second group of photos are a D M Lefever "cross bolt 5B" which Keith Kearcher, Bend, OR, restocked to replace very poor quality work done sometime earlier.

His turn around time is quite good, so you won't be without your gun for many months (or years in some cases of stock makers with huge backlogs of work).

Hi HammerGuy, I would also suggest Kieth Kearcher. He made a forend for me for one of my hammerguns. Turn around was fast and he checkered and refinished the forend to match the butt stock. Cost was $450.00.

He does almost all my doublegun work and is reasonable and fast, also his work is as good as anyone.

Oh, he answers his e-mails quickly.

Good Luck!!!

Greg
