Though I've only owned three Espaniols I've noticed that all had braised top and bottom ribs. An AYA 10 bore, a Uggie 12 bore and a V. Sarasqeuta 20. Anybody get out on a limb and say this is normal for the Spanish? Chops

Never braise ribs. Always go with the traditional slow smoked ribs.
I did have a Uggie .410 a while back with brazed ribs. Not tasty. But, it seemed pretty solid. I had the barrels hot blued, knowing there was no solder to worry about. I believe the original blue was hot salt as well. The AYA #2 I had, I either couldn't tell or it never came up. I just don't recall how they were attached.

Chuck, I think the BSS had braised ribs, too. It would make sense that to braise chopper lumps, you may as well do the whole thing in one process.??? Chops

Most Spanish guns have braised ribs . I have come across one or two high grades that have been tinned ,as well as an older AyA NO 1 equivalent that had brazed bottom rib and loop but a tinned top rib. As a rule of thumb it is safe to say all Spanish guns have brazed ribs, side by side and O/U's. As do a lot of Italian guns and old Belgians.

Geo: the very thin line of solder (it's not really lead) will be the color of brass or copper. Chops

I didn't get out my dictionary to check for certain but am pretty sure that "Braise" is defined as a method of cookung while "Braze" is defined as a method of joining metal with a brass filler.
