Does anyone have information concerning Lowell Waller Saunders (1901-1954)? He was a geologist, lived in California, and apparently a noted gun collector. A Nov, 1950 Popular Mechanics article about Pfiefer rifle barrels mentions this. He definitely liked Farquharsons and had Tom Shelhamer stock several rifles for him.

I imagine he did, but do you have anything to document this man and his rifles?

I have copies of two letters concerning a rifle that was built for Lowell Saunders. One is from F.K. Elliot in which he explains that Saunders designed the 220 Saunders Krag cartridge and that that caliber on the Farquharson action was his favorite rifle. Elliot says he barreled several rifles in this cartridge for Saunders. The other letter is from Thomas Shelhamer who explains that he stocked a Hillsdon& Hillsdon Farquharson for Saunders in February of 1953. There is a little personal information about Saunders. I'll be happy to send you copies of this correspondence When I get back from Las Vegas.
