Bought out of an ad in the Traverse City MI Record Eagle--an 1890's Remington Lee rifle in 30-40 Krag. Sadly it was sporterized along the way, but it reputedly started life as one of a lot of about 2000 made for the MI Nat. Guard. It still is marked for the rack and slot number on the metal buttplate. The front sight has been changed. sporting sling swivels added and the stock modified and checkered. Also has a scrimshaw deer on the buttstock. I bought it as a piece of Michigan history, for $325. Don't know if I overpaid or not, but it is a handy, light weight, gun. Anybody know anything about these? Safe to shoot if I can find factory ammo? The multi-part bolt design looks like it was designed as a test for a toolmaker.
