Have been offered an LC Smith Specialty Grade 20 gauge in 90% plus condition. I know the history of gun going back to it's original owner. Both of us want a fair deal - what value would you place on such a gun?

Depends on configuration. Probably $4-$5K in a private party transaction, if it's truly 90% and a desireable configuration. Look at the Puglisi Gun Emporium website for comps. He usually has a good selection of nice Smiths, but at top prices.

I have been looking at a 12 ga Specialty. Asking is $1750, and I think it's a $1K gun because it's a 12 that needs some work. Smith prices are rising, and the new Houchins book will probably add to that.

Blue Book of Gun Values, 26th Edition. L.C. Smith Specialty Grade 95% is $2,500. 90% $2,100. 80% $1,800. Add 50% for 20 ga. Now it is $3,150.00 for a 20 ga. in 90%. Guess your sorry you asked now.
Now if it was a .410 in the same grade add 400%=$10,500.00.

I'm thinking $4000 is a good number for a 20 Specialty in that condition if it hasn't been screwed around with. I've seen them priced at a lot more recently and haven't seen them for less. Bagfinger
