Looking for information on a SxS I picked up at a show today. Can't post pics, as my camera is dead. Anyway, it is marked Charles Daly on the lock plates and has CHARLES DALY DAMASCUS BARRELS on the rib. Has a very pleasing damascus pattern on the tubes and the bores are bright with light frost. One very light scuff/ding about 12" from muzzles on left tube (does not show inside). Doll head extension and well defined percussion fences. Only other markings are SN on watertable and bottom of chambers and the number 127 on bottom of left tube. Forend has fine checkering, but buttstock is an uncheckered replacement. Guta percha CD logo buttplate has small chip out of top. Gun is very tight, even with forend off. Left hammer is a functional but poor replacement. I know Charles Daly was an importer, but can anyone hazard a guess where it was made and what kind of value it might have? http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k229/rudybolla/Charles%20Daly%20SxS/

Assuming it has a long top lever and not a thumb-hole opener, I'll garner a guess it was made by Georg Lindner in Suhl. Value is a bit difficult with the replacement stock. Quite low serial number.
Kind Regards,

Rudy & Raimey: My Charles Daly 10 Bore toplever hammergun SxS has SN 162 on the watertable, CHARLES DALY DAMASCUS BARRELS on the rib, CHARLES DALY on the bar action locks, doll's head rib extension and percussion fences, steel buttplate on the original stock, forearm with finger release both with fine checkering. I believe mine to be made by Linder.
Best Regards, George

Thanks! The SN is actually 948. I assume the 127 is an inspector mark?

Rudy: If the 127 holds the position just ahead of the flats on the underside of the left tube, it may be some sort of an ID number for the craftsman that peformed the task of knitting the tubes to the action. Many times the initials of the mechanic are found in that position(see next to last pic with initials CFW here: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=185651886 ). Otherwise it may be an assembly number. Type of striker? GeorgeL: I'd say you are correct. Any initials or number on the underside of the left tube just ahead of the flats and what type strikers might it have? Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Most less than Diamond Grade Lindner hammer guns are great guns, but condition rules their value. Low condition guns with problems of originality are priced very low in the gun show market. Unfortunately, there is little interest in these guns.

Mine does not. Not knowing the nomenclature (sorry), my best description is that mine has "pan head" firing pins where the hammers strike.

Is there a retaining screw for the strikers? So more like these strikers but with a doll's head extension: What type forend latch, or pin, does it have? Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Yes. It has the retaining screws. Also the Deeley type forend latch. Replacement buttstock was very well fitted. Perhaps it just had the checkering sanded away? Any percentage in having recheckered and chip in buttplate repaired?
