I have a graded ah fox ejector gun, mid 1920's. It has a non-original stock on it, gun is in pretty good condition. The left ejector does not work though. It appears to work with the wood off so I suspect there is some interference with the wood. However, if I black the foreend metal it doesn't transfer any black to the wood. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this ejector to not trip? Any tips for troubleshooting?

When you say that it appears to work with the wood off of the forend are you attaching the forend metal to the barrels and are the ejectors functioning?

Correct. I can't really mount the metal without the wood perfectly since the latch wouldn't be held in place well, but even if I just hold the FE iron against the barrels as I operate the gun the ejectors function, yet with the wood on the left one doesn't...seems obvious the wood is interfering somehow yet there doesn't appear to be contact with the wood on any of the moving parts, so I'm stumped.

David you might have an alignment problem where one or both of the barrel channels is forcing the forend out of alignment with the ejector mechanism (the real name escapes me at the moment)in the frame. You might put some black on the barrels to see if you get a rub mark in the barrel channels but if the ejector activates when it is tripped with the forend removed I would say that the alighment of the forend is probably your problem. .

Do you mean the FE wood would be cocking the whole FE iron sideways a bit, so the metal:metal contact on the knuckle is not as close as it should be on one side, causing the ejector trip(?) to not contact the ejector seer?? I do not think this is the case, but I will check it. If this is not what you mean I'm not sure I follow you?

Yes Dave that is what I am suggesting. I can't think of anything else that whould cause the ejectors to fail to function with the forend wood on but allows them to function with the wood off.

Put the wood on the iron with metal blacked.Cock and trip ejector without putting forend on and see if any place holding ejector from working. Bobby
