Concerning Remington Model 1894 and Model 1900: Was the action usually blued, or case colored?

Considering restoring one, and can't tell, since all the original finish is gone.

Thanks.

Remington actions were case hardened. I had a Remington Model 1900 restored by Doug Turnbull, so if you need any help, shoot me an e-mail. I really think these are under-appreciated doubles.

On the higher grade Model 1894s (B- and above) the trigger guards and the top levers were nitre blued.

Very nice gun...and I concur with your sentiment, they are in my eyes the best value for money among the American vintage guns. Strong, simple, and when engraved, very sexy.
