Hi Jeff, the best way to find out what model AyA you have is to e-mail them. They are very, very responsive, about a day turn around. All you need to send them is the SN. Here's a link to them:

http://www.aya-fineguns.com/contacto_en.php

There is no way to track what model you have thru the SN. No one here has the AyA company records.

Best of Luck!!

Although bespoke guns can be ordered with whatever engraving the buyer desires, generally the engraving patterns below are standard.

AYA No. 56 with English Style Rose & Bouquet.

AYA No. 53 with European Style Ribbon & Floral

Both are very nice guns but the #56 is step above the #53. Plus, the #56 has a heavier frame.

I was told by an AyA customer service rep some years ago when identifying my M53E gun that the M56 and M53 were essentially the same gun, with the M56 their full scale gun designed particularly for the rigors of competitiion, and the M53 a 90% or so scaled version for field duty, purposely scaled down to save weight and make for livelier handling. They consider both as "top of the line" guns.

Here are the differences

The 56 is their more robust action.
Different engraving
12 0r 20 ga only. No 16. 16 is available in the #53
Chrome nickle bbls
Better wood
Normally about 10-12 oz. heavier
Has a raised filed rib as standard. The model 53 has a game rib as standard

Best

The #56 also costs about twice what the #53 does.
