The thread about the Ideal shotgun reminded my of a good story.
About 10 years ago I came across a nice A. Jos. DeFourny, 20ga in a local Gunshop,(it was marked "2" on the rib) after a couple of months of haggling over the price I bought it and a little Belgian 28ga Hammergun, the right barrel of the 28 was crushed (that is another story). The DeFourny had a broken ejecter spring and the stub had pushed out the wood on the forend. I replaced the spring, steamed the wood back, recut the checkering and refinished the wood. I had done all I could do for it, time to sell and move on to the next project.
I placed the gun on consignment at a Bethesda, MD, gunshop.
A couple of weeks later the shop owner called and told me the gun had sold and that I would not believe the rest of the story.
As luck would have it the Buyer was up in Bethesda on business and had stoped in the shop during a break to look over the used shotguns (avid woodcock hunter). The light went on "I think I have the "1" gun at home". he did indeed have it.
Just like winning the Lottery.
