Say you own a 28-ga. Parker Repro with 26" barrels that you shoot quite well, a gun that you don't experience the whippiness some report having when shooting; and now you have the opportunity to retrofit a set of .410 barrels with--either 26" or 28" to make a bi-gauge set...what length set of barrels do you go with, the 26" or 28"?

Depends on what you want in handling and how the .410's are struck. If you want to replicate the handling of the 28 gauge, get as close as possible to the same weight and balance of the two barrel sets (weigh and balance both barrel sets and look at differences). Post the weights and balance distance from the breech end (each of the barrels sets under consideration, not the assembled gun) and we can discuss.

Details given in the question included 26" and 28" as available options. Of those two, I'd take the 28", with Chuck.

Per a phone call I made to the supplier of these barrels this morning, the barrels are not at this point finish bored. He stated that 30 thousandths or so would be coming out of them when finished, they are also not fully struck, chambered, choked and are not fitted with the ejectors yet--so weighing them at this time would be inconclusive as to finished weight. The supplier did say, and it is reasonable to assume, the 26" .410 barrel sets would probably weigh more than the 26" 28-gauge barrels on my Parker Repro. I would like to duplicate the handling dynamics of my present gun, but can appreciate what longer barrels may offer in terms of longer sighting plane and perhaps a smoother swing. Having said this, I now find out he has one set of 30" available along with just the one set of 28" and several 26" sets.

If you're not set on extra barrels, consider Briley full length .410 tubes. The miniscule extra weight(all forward) makes the gun handle as well or better. Mine is 28" and I don't see why the 26" wouldn't be as satisfactory. Add to that, you get four choke tubes and probably spend a whole lot less money. I've had mine for years and shot them a lot with zero problems or regrets.
