Help: My favorite 12 gauge a 1913 Westley Richards Drop Lock 12 Gauge that was completely redone by Westley Richards in 1971 doubled on me in the dove field. It has not done it before or since. I tested it again with live ammo, at the risk to my arm, and with snap caps but no issue. However, doubling on a 6lbs 12 gauge is a bit scary. Anyone have ideas or know a person capable of checking the gun out? thanks, Huntersdad.

Dennis Potter, Hugh Lomas, David Yale come to mind though I'm sure a number of others will be added to this list. Just be sure they have some grey hair (lots of experience and the wisdom not to go where they shouldn't). Could only be a case of needing a good cleaning and lube. Let them do it though, no time for garage mechanicing. Had a friend send one back to WR with a similar problem and it was over a year returning....and it still doubled.

I have two drop locks and they both double, I would love to trade for a two trigger gun. I single trigger on a gun lowers the value to me.

Huntersdad: I've own two droplocks: A single trigger and a double trigger. Neither has ever doubled on me.
But before you go blaming the gun, check into yourself. If you do not hold the gun firmly in shooting it, the result may be that your trigger finger goes a bit "loose" under recoil and fires the gun twice -- as if it were doubling. I especially suspect this since there has been no recurrence in your gun.
If you still suspect the gun, there is a Westley agency in Montana.

I'm with my friend Reb87 on this...I've seen his droplocks double. The Westley single trigger is a overly complicated and finicky device...it ranks up there with the Hunter 1 trigger on Elsies. Its no secret that when one goes nuts, it stays nuts until someone really familiar with the design can remedy the problem. Dennis Potter is probably THE man to fix the gun, arguably the best trigger guy in the U.S.
