Ok, first let me say that i'm very ignorant when it comes to double barrel shotguns so excuse any obvious mistakes that I may make.

I inherited my grandfather's Victor Sarasqueta sxs 12ga and I know nothing about this shotgun. I tried google and found some similar shotguns around 1500-2k, but I didn't find the one I currently own. Here are some tidbits about the shotgun.

1.) on top of the bar that runs down the middle of the barrels reads "FCA DE Victor Sarasqueta Eibar."
2.)underneath the barrel where it attaches to the trigger part of the shotgun reads "850 kgs" 12-70 inside a diamond figure and it also has a rabbit in a running motion.
3.) The trigger part has a dog that looks like it's hunting engraved on both sides and a duck flying underneath. The serial number is 124790

Can anyone tell me the model# and production year? I absolutely don't want to sell it as my grandfather was very close to me, but i'd like to insure it and was curious as to what it's value is. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You have a lower grade Victor Sarasqueta gun, commonly called a "boxlock" action. I suspect the $1,500-$2,000 guns you saw are higher grade "sidelock" action designs. They certainly should be at those prices. Look again at the proof marks, you should see a single digit letter followed by a single digit number, such as F1, which means the gun was proofed in 1960, G1 means 1961, H1 means 1962, etc.

Given that it's a 12 gauge, it appears to be in good condition, my guess would be $600-$800 at retail.

VS made both entry level guns, which is about what you have, and higher grade guns, such as the sidelock designs mentioned. They are usually well made guns. They were known as "The Gunmaker To The Kings", the kings of Spain that is. The Spanish kings liked and used their higher grade sidelock design guns.

Others more knowledgable will chime in shortly but..

made by Victor Sarasqueta Eibar spain. the 12-70 means 12 guage, 70mm (2 3/4") chamber length so it takes shells up to that length.
850 kgs is the proof pressure level it was tested for.
There will also be a date code on the flats inside the action which can be used to tell when it was made (probably mid to later 1900s)

basically; use non-magnum 2 3/4" (or lower pressure) shells.
Light to medium loads will keep both you and the gun happiest and do a fine job on the receiving end.

V. Sarasqueta was a good maker of mostly midrange shotguns that are considered to be good values for the money.

You need to give a better description, and/or pictures of the gun and the action before anyone can tell you which model it likely is.

I assume it is a SxS (they did make some O/U target guns).
Is it a boxlock, or sidelock? The company made mostly boxlock guns with many of them having false sideplates that make them look like sidelocks.

Single trigger or double triggers?

Is the stock straight or does it have a pistol grip?
Is the forend a "splinter" type or a wider/fatter beavertail shape?

How elaborate and extensive is the engraving on the frame?
How fancy is the wood and checkering?

Condition of wood, action and barrels? When you take the forend off is there any "play" when you grap/wiggle the barrels side to side?
Any obvious wear/rust/pits inside or out?

Any alterations (cut stock/added recoil pad, cut barrels, screw-in choke tubes or fixed chokes)?

It is a modern shotgun made to be used daily and should not be a closet queen. take reasonable care of it and it will last for many years giving you lots of enjoyment.

$1000-$1500 is the likely price range for most of them in good condition.

Hello, Larry is spot on about Don Victor. Excellent maker that at one time was the standard that all Spanish Gunmakers tried to emulate.

As to what the model is it could be either a Model 2 (if it has a Greener Crossbolt) or Model 3. Can't tell much by the pics. Both these models are extractor guns.

As Larry said, you can get the date of production by the date code he told you about. Here's a link to help you out with this:

You have a nice gun in good shape, well worth keeping. I hope you have many happy and healthy years shooting her.

All the best!

Greg

I see that you posted pictures before i hit "enter".

Scalloped back boxlcok,
case colored action SxS.
Splinter forend and can't tell if it has a pistol grip on stock.

A good quality very usable bird gun (fine for occasional clay targets). Probably weighs about 6.5-7lbs. "hot" shells will rattle your teeth and be unnecessary to get the job done.
I don't remember if Saresqueta guns were considered "safe" for steel shot.

Use it.

BTW: the case coloring tends to wear/fade with handling. Don't worry about it. You can wear ligthweight leather gloves and make sure you clean it and wipe down the metal with a good quality gun oil when done (not silicone). You may also want to avoid using bug spray with DEET in it since that can disolve some gunstock finishes.

You also need to keep the parts of the action that rub/pivot against the barrels/ejectors clean and lighlty lubricated during use since they are friction points and will be most likely to show wear over time. DO NOT drench the action in oil or solvent since it can seep into the head of the stcck. A very little bit is all you need.

JMHO

According to the link provided, it's a 1957 (c1). Thank you.
