Well, the link does takes some manipulation for one to make the trip over to the pix.
It's a Darne.
It's a .410.
There's lots of work done there.
It's executed moderately well.
The style is VERY narrowly targeted. Maybe 1 in 200 will like it.
I'm with the 198.

Sebastien,
Why do you give a damn about what others think? Your only concern should be if you like it! For what it's worth I like it very much and hope you post pictures of the complete gun when it's all put back together.

Sebastien,
Superb workmanship. Is it what you had hoped for as that is all that really matters.

I like the shotgun. I had a chance to trade a Darne WAY back in 1969, in Vietnam of all places. I wasn't into shotguns at the time and had no use for one. I think it was 16 ga. and only remember it because it was a double gun and of an unusual type. It was very lightweight, that I remember.

Anyway, the engraving is unique. Since you asked, it's not to my personal tastes. I'm not being a smartass here, but it looks in style like Carlos Castenada's interpretation of Eve in the Garden. Snakes, fruit, and a woman's bust. And strange plants that remind me of psychedelic art of my youth.

I wish I had the money to commission an engraving, a shotgun worthy of that much time and effort. One thing about it, you'll never have a problem describing it.

It sort of grows on you like a Picasso,Stella or a Klimdt.I like it more than I did the first time I saw it and really want to see it when finished.I'm afraid most here would rather see realism than abstract or impressionistic art.I think the gun would have been very much at home in pre-WW1 Paris.

Do you think so? I don't and don't think you will ever see a pre-WW I gun engraved like that.

It's certainly not impressionistic, and not even abstract. It's more psychodelic post-modern, in my view. In style, late 1960s.

I was referring to the pre-war artist colony in Paris and if you study the art of the time you will see similarities.None of this has much to do with any actual pre-war gun engraving, but this gun would resonate with pre-war European painters, I believe.
