In Florida's summer, shooting a sxs at skeet or sporting can be a painful experience for the forward hand even with a leather handguard and a sweaty glove.
Any suggestions ? danc

One word --- beavertail. I know the feeling, Jawja is the same.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Leather tranfers heat readily to your hand. Try gloves made from other materials but with gripping material added. Cotton gloves with a rubber grip surface maybe better but not as classy.

I shot a SxS with a splinter forend at dove in Argentina. I had an insulated outdoor type glove over a leather glove and did just fine.
Best,
Mike

Try a leather hand guard if the glove does not work for you, or a thicker glove. A summer weight mortorcycle glove or police issue etc will do nicely.

The Gripswell will do it for you. Guys at the UP Shoot, which involves a one shooter flurry (76 targets in 2 1/2 minutes), use the Gripswell with splinter FE guns and do just fine.

danc, try getting away from dark materials. White gloves will help. I don't know what you can do for a lighter color barrel guard

An inexpensive solution is mechanic's gloves from the auto supply store. They are what the race car pit crews use to work on hot engines and cost about $20 at my local store.

http://www.gripswell.com/gs2k.phpGS-2K Side by Side Heat Shield From their FAQ http://www.gripswell.com/faq.phpWhat is the SxS (side-by-side) glove? We developed a companion to our palm swell glove that is geared toward those that frequently shoot side-by-side shotguns. The barrel orientation on side-by-side shotguns often causes the shooter’s fingers to come in contact with hot barrels. A thin layer of high-tech material sandwiched between the glove and another layer of reversed leather (suede being more textured, allows for greater surface ventilation) provides protection that is hard to believe. Shooters cannot put enough rounds down a pair of barrels to get heat through the high-tech barrier. Pete
