I don't believe FFL fees in Kelifornia or other areas need to be several times that.($75-100). Jim, in Los Angeles County, $75-$100 would be a real bargain. Some of the extra cost has to be related to the cost of living here, and some of it is related to the fact that the FFL has to store the gun for 10 or more days to accommodate our f*****g waiting period. They even have to time the waiting period to the minute. If you complete the paperwork at 3:45 in the afternoon, you can't pick up the gun until after 3:45 ten days later. It's all a major PITA, but probably not unconstitutional.

Regarding Private Party Transfers, Kali has a regulation limiting the amount a dealer can charge on top of the fees required by the State. It's here: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/dlrfaqs.php#17GDealers ignore it, Ca DOJ doesn't enforce it. I pretty much refuse to do any business at all with dealers who like to play the bend over game with customers.

Cal has gotten many times worse since then. 50+ years ago, when I first moved there, California was a great place to live. Not any more. Too bad.

I don't like even going to California for a visit since I can't legally carry a firearm there. That's also a primary reason I quit going to Rocky Point in Mexico which used to be a popular place with Arizonans until the drug cartel established a foothold. I can't think of any other places close by where I feel a NEED to be armed. Jim

FFL dealers are not immune from the twin afflictions of ignorance and stupidity. As with auto mechanics, doctors, plumbers and butchers, it's all about finding someone you can work with. I put the X on all the sporting goods stores and gunshops in my area, found an active LEO with an FFL who does all my transfers. One call does it all, great guy to work with,no worries, nothing gets lost, nothing gets forgotten because "they were too busy". Just gotta kiss some frogs....
