Hmmm...always wanted a Fluesie grade 4. Let's see, two grand for cobbling on a new set of barrels and top rib, a grand at least for a new stock up the standards of the gun, and the bid's up to $300 plus. All for a $3500 gun. Nahhh...Geo.

Love the auction description -

"The Ithaca was recovered from a Police property room with a 10" barrel and pistol grip stock. Some moron stole and cut down a fine 4E, $3500.00 shotgun! The barrels were crushed on the end to be legal.

Reminds me of that movie a few years back "lock, stock and 2 smoking barrels" where they don't realize what the stole.

Now, that's a black hole to throw your money into. I'd say more like 2 grand for the restock, not counting the cost of a blank. You could probably pull off a shooter for 4K.

These kinds of deals are only worth it to a person capable of doing all the work himself. That $4k would be labor for a craftsman. If you're the craftsman, the $4k swag is not applicable.

Might be cheaper to have a field grade engraved as a grade 4. Then restock the gun. Sure would be quicker. Real "project" gun that needs a new set of barrels or these sleeved, both tangs welded and stock made. Sure sounds like a money pit to me. BP might be able to use this one to stop the oil leak.

Keep in mind even if you fixed it you'd still have a gun that doesn't have it's own barrels. You might love it but the next guy would only love it if the price were really good.

Maybe just buy a Flues 4e for sub-2K, say $1895? Puglisi had one a few yrs back at the price. That one had the swamped rib and ramps fore and aft after the French mode. So does mine! Had Brit reproof; so does mine! Can't believe the prices for these and for the Flues SBT also. Got my 34" from a "rifle" shop that wanted it to move NOW and it really is a sweet gun with condition (CC, barrel interior and exterior, and wood). A lot of my guns are sorrily compromised in that area.
