"CHOKE" mark in the left barrel and none on the right would mean that the right barrel had no or very little constriction from bore diameter when proofed. This is a convenient way to document a cylinder bore barrel as factory original rather than bored out by a corner gunsmith.

Does CHOKE in this case mean open or closed?

Murphy, I believe that right barrel is essentially what I would call Cylinder (no constriction), and results in pretty wide or open pattern.

The left barrel produced a more tight pattern when I shot it on paper. I am not certain how to measure\determine accurately the choke (i.e. was it full, i\m, mod, i\c, etc..)

I originally shot it at paper from 25 yards to pattern and make assessment using box of 8 shot.

Received the certificate of origin today for the shotgun. wasn't exactly certain what details would be included, but found it to be an interesting read. Some of the highlights:

- describes barrel lengths and choke. Letter confirms that left barrel was Modified choke, while cylinder choke in right
- stock was originally 14 9/16th inches long
- overall gun weight was 5lb 4oz
- original owner paid 20 guineas for it
- was covered by a three year warranty

Based on letter, appears everything but stock is per original specs, which I expected since obvious section added. That did get me thinking more about value.

Assuming I removed the section added and returned to the original configuration, would that help/hurt value? Since it fits me now, don't see that as a need, however, if I was to resell, was wondering whether was worth effort\expense or not.

Expecting the next flat of 28 ga to arrive tomorrow and clays will be targeted this weekend. It's been a wonderful journey in learning more about the gun.

Thanks for the help and leads to all!
