Can anyone tell me how newly blued bbls. can be aged as to have that old look? Tried "triple F" lightly and it removed some color but that is it. Wonder if leaving the bbl's in a safe place out in the sun would fade them some? Thanks in advance.

Guns: I think most bluing disappears because of handling, not UV rays. Your super-fine steel wool is a pretty good idea, but won't replicate age and use without trying real hard. What kind of gun are we talking about, and what's your hurry? TT

Could you expand on that method a little?
Thanks

If you are wanting that plum color, put one more coat of rust blue on it, cut it a bit short time wise and do not boil it. Just neutralize with a good wash and baking soda. That will give a bit of the plum instead of the black.

If you want wear, put a bit of Simichrome on a pair of cotton gloves and take your gun on a long walk.
