Hi,

Wondered if anyone could lend an opinion as to the cause of a problem I have.

I have an old (1952) Merkel 201e that hasn't been shot in awhile. Had it out yesterday, and discovered that with the safety on, one barrel would still fire (the other one would not). With the safety off, both barrels fired as they should.

I am probably going to send the gun to Merkel USA to have it fixed, but I was just curious in the meantime as to what might be the problem, and if it was a difficult or easy fix.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Tom

Tom,sounds like the trigger is contacting the sear before the saftey block. The trigger needs to be built up where it contacts the saftey block or filed down where it contacts the sear depending or whether it has any free travel in the trigger before contacting the sear. Should be an easy fix although they will most likely fit a new trigger. This is something that needs to be done properly as it poses a serious safety issue.

I agree with Rd Show's answer. Respectfully, it should only be attempted by someone who knows what he's doing and trying to accomplish.
