If you still have a Springer around I would love to see a picture, one of my favorite European makers.

In one of his books or articles I remember Elmer Keith commenting that Springer was the only Euro double rifle maker he respected as much as the top Brits.

I think I will clean up the stock and add a pad. Re-rust blue the barrel maybe and leave it alone and have fun with it

Thanks for all of the info.

Speaking of the Weatherby look, wasn't it the Vanguard (I think) that had the diamonds inlaid in the side? This just oozes Weatherby look-alike.

Gerald, I believe I saw a rifle at a show yesterday here in MN that was done by the same person as yours. It was on an early small Sako action in .222 Rem. Highly fiddleback walnut with the diamond inlay and well executed checkering with carving but none on the side of the stock. It had claw mounts added and one puzzling claw mt extended on the side of the receiver which I could not figure out a use for. Bob

Dschulnigg is a high end sporting goods house that still carries expensive rifles. The right side of the barrel near the receiver will have a series of numbers. First is a two digit number indicating the year the rifle was made. Following the proof mark will be a 4/5 digit number; this is the number of rifles proofed so far that year. The receiver and the safety lug on the bolt carry the serial number. Dschulnigg made arms in any style including classic. Many were for American military officers so the caliber is probably original. In the fifties you could chose to use a new military action, this is where the 2 safeties originated. Have never seen poor quality engraving on one. Nice piece and worth restoring.
