A friend just got this as a family gift and I'm hoping someone on the forum can discern more from this picture than I can. I suspect it's some type on guild gun (no maker) but I'm expecting we can provide more information than this.

Post 1912 and looks to be, at least the tubes, by Heinrich Krieghoff. Those initials "N"?? on the left tube near the lower rib might provide some insight.

"Eagle Nitro" is post 1912 and lacking a date stamp so pre-1923. Also the guilds didn't make guns and the only weapon centered around the guild was the example presented to attain the rank of master. It would have been a trade gun. I know that it is semantics, but for some reason many trade-guns were made.

G. Wilcke owned by Mr. Hallquist, so let me rephrase my 1st post in that the "HK" may be a control mark if, if "EK"(Emil Klett tube maker post WWI?) and/or a "K" in a rotated square/rhombus is found on the tubes.

I have a guess on the trade-guns and it may be that the firearms merchant ordered more than he purchased so they didn't roll stamp his name on the tubes on the tubes or top rib.

Yeah, pics of the action, either right or left side, & underside. Any pic better showing the area between the flats & forend lug.

Raimey,

I sent you a e-mail with pics that look familiar to the
initials on this example.

Rob:
I'll see if I can find that pic from Nov. 2009, I think??

But the longarm in question has the "D" stamp in the same position as see on many of the Sauer examples, so some "D" was performing the same task for other craftsmen. Probably made between WWI, The Great War before WWII, 1923. But the "HK" doesn't look to overlap as Heinrich Krieghoff's and looks to be more centered. Circa WWI is a very difficult time to attach names to initials as many of the older craftsmen were winding up while younger craftsmen who survived WWII with the same initials were beginning. Sure the Kelber's were all about tubes but there wasn't a Kelber with the first initial "H". And the Klett's played a large role in gunmaking in Suhl such as August Heinrich Klett who also owned Johan Stephan Klett & Söhne at the turn of the 20th century but seems to have faded into history by 1911. There was Hugo Kirchner of Suhl who was a barrel specialist at least by the 1930s. And I'm sure there were more.

Raimey,

Thanks for the info. I re sent the pics to you by e-mail. I believe you had some computer issues earlier. The initials look
the same on my barrels as on the above example. Please let me know what you think.

Rob

Thanks Rob for the 3rd effort. I think I may have put the pics where I can find them now. I really don't think that Eduard Kettner made many of his examples or that he had a manufacturing facility in Suhl but rather he had a store front for the purpose of sourcing. With that said, I think the script "E.K" to be for Emil Klett and not for Eduard Kettner. I contend that the Klett klan played a large part in the tube sourcing of Suhl:

August Heinrich Klett, probably pre-WWI

Emil Klett, probably post WWI

F.A.(Friedrich August??) Klett - Alfred Hauche was a principal from WWI onward an maybe a possiblity for "A.H."

Heinrich Christoph Klett(& Söhne) post WWI Heinrich Klett & Söhne(all of Zella Saint Blasii) with the "Söhne" being Heinrich Louis Klett, another "L.K." but I think during the depression he concentrated solely on wood work.

Johann Stephan Klett(& Söhne) up till circa 1912.

note encircled "S&S" stamp forward of flats on left tube

Eduard Kettner - November 1927

Eduard Kettner post 1912-pre-1923
