Los Chanares didn't keep sixteen but I asked for them ahead of time and they got them in for me. I shot the first two thousand and they went to town and got some more for me.

The Past bra or a shooting vest with a pocket for a shoulder pad should help. Next step is doubling up the shoulder pads or a recoil absorbing butt treatment. A gun with a J-S stock would be a piece of cake for 1000 rounds a day.

The 7-1/4 pound Parker shooting 1oz loads wasn't any problem for me. It has a Pachymyal pad. The loads didn't feel like 1300 fps to me though, more like the standard 1200 fps.

I brought back an empty cartridge box:

When I went to Cordoba I took a Winchester 23, and long tang Browning Superposed, both in 20s. I would shoot one till it warmed up, then switch to the other. The only thing that took a pounding was the Credit Card when I paid my Shell bill. My arms did get a little sore from holding the guns up for many hours.

I shot about 4 flats a day for four days.

Never shoot in a single T-shirt while perspiring. Old clay target shooter's trick is to shoot in two T-shirts or at least a cut off T-shirt under another one. The outer shirt will rub against the inner shirt instead of against your wet skin.

I would take a skeet gun with 20 and 28 tubes.

I might be nervous about my K-80 but I think it would be great

A Winchester 21 with 26" or 28" barrels would be about perfect. As Kevin mentioned, 20 or 28 ga tubes would be great. I'd prefer 28 gauge personally. My experience there led to the belief that full choked long barrel guns were a detriment. Most shots were fairly close and fast. Whatever you decide, please do not make the mistake of taking a repeater. Hard for us in the states to comprehend just how painful it becomes to shove hundreds of rounds into a magazine. Also how easy it is for those mechanical mousetraps to stop functioning. My first day gun was a near new 20 gauge Benelli and it proved to be a piece of junk. Borrowed a 28 ga Beretta O/U after and it proved to be about perfect.

I'll probably never go again but if I did and if I won the lottery it'd be nice to have a pair of doubles. Teach the bird boy how to load and work with you.

Actually, my problem was that after about 500 rounds I'd get bored and want to do something else. So I'd pack up and go watch other shooters--lots of fun to verbally critique their shooting. Couple times I thought Mike was gonna let a round loose in my direction.

Oh, 16 gauge ammunition. It was my understanding that there are a lot of 16's in use by locals and fodder is readily available for the asking. Most lodges don't have it in their storeroom cause it's seldom called for. A small store down the road from Los Charnares in the town of Santa Fe (?) had all the 16's Mike could use.

These personal experiences concerning trips to South America and other high volume hunting places is extremely interesting and very informative. Placing oneself into a situation where fatigue, shotgun reliability and all sorts of other issues surface that were not contemplated before experiencing this type of hunting really sheds a lot of light on the difficulties encountered.
Great stuff!!!

Joe

Actually a restocked(man size) tubed(28) 32" model 21 with ejectors AND double triggers would be perfect in my inexperienced mind.

I still think a tubed K-80 would be second best thing.

Kevin, for the shooting we did a gun that was configured more for skeet (quick) was better suited for the job than one for the long methodical shots. And open chokes were an asset too. Perhaps both types of guns would be great to have since terrain vaires so much. I keep remembering that a lot of our shooting was done in charnares brush (thick and medium height) and as the dove came by heading for their roosts many of the opportunities they presented were fleeting snap shots. Of course, open grain fields would be a totally different proposition.
