Saw this on Ivory Beads. Is this considered a good price for this grade? I am looking more for an education on LeFever's than in buying at this time. All help is appreciated to educate the uneducated.... Duke http://www.ivorybeads.com/site/default.a...E&FSID=1827

That one was "sale pending" a few weeks ago. Somebody backed out. 95% original fading cc? Requires the suspension of disbelief just to avoid trying to figure out what that means. Steel barrels. Maybe that's good. Lot of drop, pretty short. I'd think it would have to be a real time traveller to bring 4K but my opinion would have to be discounted because I recently bought one for 1K (damascus barrels), and probably am not the world's foremmost expert on condition. rabbit,
Thought the pull was a bit short - thought it might be to the back trigger but closer viewing of horn buttplate looks like it has been fiddled with. As noted in my first post, I am just looking to be educated on LeFevers. My take is that it was a bit high, but I am quite ignorant of what should be the right price. Thanks

For that much money you could have a right nice E grade that is forsale over on the Lefever BBs. Sorry, but that gun is about 2X the real price, even if it was legit, which I doubt.
I expect a refinished gun not to be priced like it was a mint gun. Not the case with British guns I know, but it certainly is with American guns. Original condition is where the money is in US guns, not in frequent refinishing of the gun to keep it looking fresh. Mint condition or 90% does not ever apply if the gun has been refinished. Then the gun is a good looking, solid shooter at best but it is not original and can not be priced as one.

So about $2k is reasonable for an FE. As the noted founded of "Faber College" Emil Faber is quoted as saying, "KNOWLEDGE IS GOOD"
Thanks for the knowledge... Duke

I think you can do better on a shooter, Randy. Have you checked Lefever Arms Collectors site piggybacking on the PGCA site? Useful discussions there which would give you a basic familiarization with what others are thinking/looking for. If you must have a time capsule gun, you probably should expect to pay the fare. You might also want to get Elliott's Lefever book.
I'm wondering why there isn't a price structure tied to variation in the mechanism? Perhaps there is. I'd like to have an earlier Lefever with All the adjustment screws as recently described by Silvers and 2-piper.

BTW: how do you get to the part of the Lefever site with the guns for sale?
Can someone please post a direct link to it here?
I've looked for it, but I can't find it. Every time I click on the guy with the pipe and dogs, I bounce back to the LACA FORUMS page.
Thanks

jack rabbit,
Thanks for the info on the PGCA site. I'll go to it. I have just been taken by the form of Uncle Dan's guns so I am in the research mode to decide what I want, what I can afford and hopefully these are the same (probably not...)
