One of my New Years resolutions is to clean up my gun projects list by either getting them done or selling them off. One that I would like to "get done" is a Double Rifle conversion from a very good Sauer & Sohn Model 11 sixteen guage roundtop shotgun action(over hanging and intercepting sears, beaded fences). This Model 10 has multiple barrel bulges from some one that went "insane" with a hydraulic barrel dent remover. I mean it is truly ugly. Anyway the gun has a highly figured stock (for a Sauer this is uncommon) Horn trigger guard and double underlugs and greener cross bolt with tang safety. In other words it is a perfect canditate for this type of project. Touble is....I don't know of any one that can truly pull this conversion off with high quality results. (conversion would be either 45-70 or 9.3 x 74R and I am leaning towards .45-70)

Can anyone recommend a U.S. based Gunsmith or hobbiest for this project that has the experience to get the job done right and with verifiable results? (aka previusly satisfied customers) Any recommendations with contact information are welcomed. Happy New Year to one and all! Jeff

I'm sure a savvy guy like Ken Owen, Del Whitman, or even Mr. George Hoenig could pull this off with extraordinary results. There is a double rifle at the Sidney Neb. Cabelas that this very thing was done to it, I believe its built on a Charles Osborne BLE action? Anyhow, call Tom Bryant at that Cabelas and he can tell you who did the work on that rifle, I remember it being very nicely done.

Try Kirk Merrington.

He can do anything having to do with a barrel.

This response does not answer your question directly.
However, the link can take you to a thread that you, as a gent with "gun projects', will find very interesting.
http://www.nitroexpress.com - will take you to the parent BBS. Some sub-boards are visible to non-members. Membership will allow you access to more sub-boards. The (membership only) sub-board you want is "Building Double Rifles & Gunsmithing". The article/thread you want is ".303 British Double Rifle Project" - an excellent article complete with detailed pictures and well explained technique.
Depending on your practical experience, motivation, and equipment, you may just decide to do the double rifle project yourself. I lack the talent and motivation, but I found the author's comments on welding and bluing really interesting and valuable, IMHO.
Hope this helps.
