Gentlemen,

Advice please on how to adjust a set trigger on my Heinrich Munch Combination rifle. It has a push forward set trigger on the rifle barrel.

Currently when set I can squeeze the trigger enough to trip it off set, but then it doesn't trip the main sear and you end up with a mushy double pull. Part of the problem, me thinks, is I am left handed and part of the movement of my trigger finger is from left to right, rather than straight back.

The trigger blade also a little bit of side to side movement, but then most double I have used do have a bit of side to side movement.

Also the adjusting screw is very easy to turn - should I add some lock tight to it?

In practice I use the trigger unset in the field, but it is noce to have a set trigger for use on targets, or on long shots.

I will take it to have it professionally looked at, but local gunsmiths don't have a lot of experience of these.

Have you adjusted the trigger to a position where it is about as fine as possible? Then I'd back it off to you preference. Typically the adjustment screw shouldn't be loose. Also when you push it forward, is there a crisp snap sound? There are usually pretty much fool-proof. Either they function or they don't.

Raimey - yes when I push it forward I get a crisp snap sound, but when I squeeze the trigger it comes off set, but not enough to trip the main sear and thus release the hammer. I have a feeling there may be a bit of wear in the trigger pin - ie the pin on which it rotates, allowing side to side movement, and the set trigger bit does make proper contact with main sear.
