There have been more than one person hurt or killed attempting this, under NO circumstances use a rod, did you notice Whitey said that he jacked it out, not blew it out uncontrollably. Call a Gunsmith with a set of live round pullers.

One can always put the gun in the deepfreeze , or outdoors if you live here today, and try the extractor on the cartridge after the gun is as cold as you can get it. Brass has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than steel.

how about putting the gun vertical aand filling the bore with thin oil and driving i tight fitting dowel into the muzzel. Maby even a cast bullet. something should come loose. possibly drive bullet into case and remove primer with hydrolics. If that happens u could then use a rod. Reach around abig tree when u do this. Lots of luck. What do those who know think of this idea?

IMO there is NO WAY I would try to drive anything down the barrel with a hammer.Even around the tree.As your hands would still be around the tree swinging the hammer and holding the barrel. JMO
It will be interesting to see how this problem is solved. Whitey

Just back from the range. Thought a lot about this thread. We got a live round stuck in an old 1941 Johnson. Getting the bolt open was exciting.

First, stand the rifle on it's butt and put a "modest" amount of penetrating oil in the bore and allow it to sit for a couple days. Next, as suggested, with a new extractor in the bolt try it again with sharp lift while making sure it's pointed safely. Unless it got really mashed in there, this may do it, if not bring it to a qualified smith.

tim, gotta get some oil into the primer. Not sure only wetting it down from the front will do this.

I did look at one of the pullers brownells sells. and looks like If you could get the Colet jaws completely under and around the shell head It might work or tear the rim off.?? I also talked to a couple gunsmiths. Basically their answer was good luck and don't bring it here. But will be interesting to see how this finally works out.Again if it was mine I would try hyd pressure.

A LIVE ROUND PULLER is what you want. LIVE ROUND being the operative words. We made them when I went to Colorado School of Trades. Call around and find a Gunsmith with a set. I have never seen a test done to kill a primer by putting oil in the barrel. Any guesses on how long it will take? Brownells calls them a stuck case remover.

Friends:

Thanks for the continued discussion.

We have tried the new extractor solution. No soap.
My brother has ordered the wiz-bang tool from Brownells, and we will see how that works.

Actually, if we tear the head off the case, then the primer and powder are gone and the problem is MOSTLY solved. Then we use a stuck case remover ( also called a broken shell extractor) to remove the headless case.

At least I hope so.

Thanks for all the help so far.

Regards

GKT
