A friend went to the Bauer auction yesterday and told me a W.& C. Scott BLE 20ga. with 26 in barrels went for 1500.00. A Thomas Turner SLE 12 with 26 in barrels brought 2200.00. A 16ga. Fox SW with a cracked stock brought 830.00 and a Linder Single barrel trap gun brought 550.00. He also said that the Model 12's and Browning A5's were going fairly low. He did not have any prices on the model 12's or A5's but he thought they were bargin prices.
Seems like an auction I would have liked to attend.
Regards, Gordon

You need to understand the location of where Mattoon IL is. West central part of the state, without towns of any real size within 200 miles. I always seem to find some underpriced SXS there as the area is much more of a Model 12/Benelli demographic. The Fox was a Philly 16 ga / 28" barrels with mirror bores and except for the cracked stock ( neck) it was in excellent shape : a real bargain for someone looking for a custom platform or a nice restock. The Thomas Turner had some deep bore pits that in my opinion would not polish out, other than that -nice shape and well balanced. I considered the WC Scott since it was a 20 E , but with the short barrels and only 11 " LOP (with ~4" add on spacers) ,I couldn't get motivated . A couple of nice 28 ga model 12s went high- one being a pigeon grade with some gold ~ $ 7500. I did pick up a ~ 1885 or so J P Sauer Sidelock 2 barrel (16X 16 & 16X 11mm) damascas cased set that had a small dent in one barrel that will lift nicely I'm sure. A very unusual set that I doubt I will see again - excellent stock with two forends and will be hunted next year in S Dakota with some suitable handloads. best regards, JBP

Thanks for the picture, JB. Amazing what's in less disturbed places. The Sauer sounds like a real find.

JB,
A very interesting site. Obviously, you have to be present to bid. There are some very interesting guns. You are correct, it is in the middle of nowhere. I may just take a ride down there one of these days.

Couple of other things
The Thom Turner was a BOXLOCK m, not a SLE w/ large scroll engraving but standard BLE without a higher grade intercepting sear action.
the Charles Daly ( 34" vent rib) trapgun was a Sauer-~ superior grade( ~ 135? ) not a Lindner and had a buttstock with grafted comb, nonetheless a fantastic buy for anyone that shoots Trap ( just SC for me anymore).
best regards, JBP

Sorry for the mis-quotes. My friend doesn't have the best sight and is only looking for German guns. He gives me the shotgun info as a favor.
JBP. I think you got Mattoon mislocated. It is in East central Illinois. I spent my mis-spent youth in college just over in Charleston.
