I hope this is not too far off topic.But would appreciate any help and advice.
I have a 85 foot long clear span all concrete building and would like to build a indoor firing range to play in. My problem is finding drawings or plans for the bullet trap etc. For shooting almost any cal. Have been all over the Internet. No plans etc. Just want to sell their system. I can build it just need some kind of good plans or advice. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks whitey Email whanson@plainstel.com

A thought--check with a friendly law-enforcement person. I know of at least one town that has an indoor range for their professionals.

Tried NRA they used to have a book That gave plans etc. But no more. Guess the anti-gun people frowned on it. Anyway no longer available. The nearest police dept that MIGHT HAVE A RANGE AND MIGHT LET YOU LOOK.is about 125 miles. It does not have to be a pro set up. Just a safe efficient one. AS there would never be over 1 shooter at a time.ME mainly. The plans do not have to be pro type just somthing that works. Whitey

Just a thought...take a look at one of the small pellet gun traps, and scale it up to fit your needs. I think Outers sells a small one made out of sheet metal that might work as a general pattern. Will need to use some pretty good steel for anything bigger than .22's, though...maybe T-1?

I had a copy of the old NRA reprint book for range building, etc, and IIRC, it had small, portable style backstop (bullet trap) plans, and had plans for outdoor ranges and their earthen-type backstops, but not what you are asking about. I'll see if Dad still has his copy of it kicking around and do a check to see what's there.

I DO have access to all of the NRA mags back to 1926 or so, and if anyone can cite a month and year where they published such a plan, I'll be happy to look it up and scan it for board members who want it. Also, somewhere in the dark recesses of my computer I have a set of scans from a pre-WW II catalog for carnival-type shooting galleries. It includes several pages of neat targets that, while no longer available to buy from them, could be made today with a computer driven plasma cutter.
