The rifle is a W.R. BLE 470 which left Brummy for Nairobi in May '54. The letter refers to it as a White Hunter model.

Questions: The WR name is inlaid in gold on each side of the receiver. Does this signify what I've heard referred to as the "Gold Name" model?
If answer to above is yes, was it most likely built by W&S?

Now that my bionic shoulder and I have established perfect regulation, where can I get a front sight installed that won't shear off after 15-20 rounds. I'm requesting a specific source of hi grade dovetail inserts OR 'smith who can install same and perform cleaning/inspection.

Thanks
Pete
PS Please don't bother mentioning WR-USA

It's possible that it was built by W & S, but I kinda doubt it. I think it more likely that it was built by Westley. Look the barrels over for a number that does not match Westley's. The trade maker's number was typically put somewhere in the vicinity of the fore-end loop. Late pre-war double rifles that Webley built for the trade had the 5-digit number on the left side of the fore-end loop, close up against the barrels. If there's a non-matching number there, that's almost certainly the trade maker's number meaning that it was made for Westley by someone else.

The "White Hunter" models were generally basic DRs intended for hard service. I'm not sure, but it's my understanding that the "Gold Name" label is a generic used by the trade, not Westley.

For DR work I use J. J. Perodeau in Enid, Oklahoma. J. J. came up through the Liege trade and was with Marcel Thys before coming to the US. I've used him for a number of DR issues, and his work is superb.

Thurston,

You might have a look at the New England Custom Guns (NECG) site
http://www.newenglandcustomgun.com and see if they have a front bead that matches. Key of course is to be sure that your sight insert is the proper height to put rounds where you want them at about 100 yards. You might give them a call and also give J.J. Perodeau (named above) a call to see if he can do the job you need

Regards, Tim
