The Nov/Dec issue of Shooting Sportsman contains an article about CSM's new A-10. The article claims that it is completely designed and manufactured by CSM. It sure looks like a Beretta to me. Does anyone know if the story is true, or not?

As far as I have read, it's manufactured by CSMC, but the action is a copy of the Beretta SO sidelock action.

Not hardly.

It's my opinion that it a copy of anybodies good idea, judged against mfg. costs and the process capabilities in house. Lou told me it was there version of an SO 6 but I have major problems with that claim.

The basic parts of a double gun are the firing mechanism and the locking mechanism. The locking mechanism is not nearly identical to an SO. I don't know about the firing mechanism (the locks) because I have not been inside my SO in more than 20 years.

I hardly think so (Torx screws included).
I should clarify I am not doubting Bill, I am doubting it is a version of a SO.

1. Where is the gun made?:
The A-10American™ , as with all Connecticut Shotgun guns, is manufactured in its entirety in New Britain , CT. On occasions some smaller parts or initial machining operations will be sub-contracted if we are over capacity, in an effort to deliver products on time. We do not just assemble purchased parts, we machine virtually everything ourselves. Guns are designed, machined, assembled and finished in our own facility in New Britain , CT , USA . Pete, very clarifying. Nothing to do with SOs then.

The design is certainly different than the SO. I think CSMC wants the look of an SO and you can make your own judgement on how sucessful they've been.
I ordered one to shoot clay targets with and it will work perfectly for my purpose.
The dimensions are near perfect and I can live with everything else. At $4,040, the gun is well within my budget. I'm sure there are better guns to be had but not at this price and certainly not made in America.

One can clearly see where the "laborious research" was made. Surely the "10"
used in the name has a clear origin.

With that heritage and quality manufacturing the A-10s should be great guns.
