Mike will probably chime in on this. Good article in one of the old Gun Digest. Good stuff!

Geo Schoyen was a very talented gunsmith (and competitive shooter) who worked in the Denver area until the time of his retirement about the turn of the last century. He ran a gun shop and marked much of what he sold, so the rifle in question can be anything from a factory model he simply marked and sold through his shop to a full house target rifle for which he built the barrel and in which he lavished masterful tuning and adjusting to make a first rate target gun. More info is needed to make any kind of determination as to this specific rifle.

Is there a liner in the barrel? Is the barrel marked with anything else, top or bottom, besides the Schoyen name?

No liner in the barrel. I'll have to look at it again for markings. I'll report back on Monday. Paul

Hammerback,

The tang sight is interesting, appearing similar to but not exactly like the Lyman 103. Without more detail in the pix, it could be a 102(?) or a modified 103. Does it have click adjustable windage or just elevation?

As for the rifle and its Schoyen connection, I don't see old George "building" a sporter rifle with factory stock and standard trigger... IMHO, if he actually did much in the way of modification for target use, it would have had a heavier stock and a set trigger. OTOH, what he would have simply marketed through his shop to the casual shooter could quite well have fit that description. Regardless, it looks like a nice piece.

Regards,
Froggie
