Here is some sad news that I do not see yet posted. The Governator of California did sign AB962.
This bill requires individuals purchasing ammunition be fingerprinted and registered at the time of sale, mandates that dealers keep these records and make them available for inspection by the California Department of Justice. Ammunition retailers would also have to store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers.

Mail-order ammunition sales are prohibited under AB962.
As I understand it, this bill, as originally written, restricted the amount of "handgun ammunition" to 50-rounds-per month; I do not know if it passed in this format.

Here's one link about this sad topic: http://www.californiachronicle.com/articles/view/123574

The restrictions keep coming; one-after-another; be aware.

The Peoples Republik of Illinois had similiar legislation when I lived ther several years ago. What it did was to bury the dealers in paperwork and was eventually abolished as NOTHING else was accomplished and it was agreed that the law was worthless in combating crime. Of course one of the goals of the left wing liberals is to make the purchase of anything firearms related complicated and this furthers their agenda.
Keep on thing in mind here Arnold is a RINO and is right there in bed with the lefties.
For those on this forum that love to hunt you ought to be a LOT more concerned with Obamas appointment of Cass Sunstein to an ovesight position in his administration. This guy is a very real and direct danger to the sport we all love.

I'm in CA and, although I don't go through much handgun ammo, I started ordering batches this afternoon, for shipment from out of state. I'll lay in a supply while I can, because you just can't buy much at retail right now. Everything you have heard about the shelves being empty is absolutely true. I wanted/needed some .45 Auto Rim (for my S&W 625) and I have not seen any locally for years. For something like that, the FTF fingerprint BS is useless, and they will prevent me from getting it elsewhere. Local dealers don't want to order stuff like that because you never know when or if will will come in. Around Los Angeles it's difficult or impossible to find 9mm, .40, .45ACP, .38Spl, .357, etc. Every once in a while you can find odd stuff like .32 Auto, but not much of that. I went looking Saturday and came home empty handed. Those SOBs are really pissing me off.

Any lawyers out there who can comment on whether this law will stand if challenged as restraint of interstate trade?

Are we sure he signed it? That website sighted by bridge boy is a very contradictory website. It says how good this bill is and how it worked in Sac and LA, .... but it has what looks like pro-gun ads... I really can't believe he signed it. Some republican... a true RINO maybe even worse.

IT is true!

Here is the jackass's message

To the Members of the California State Assembly:
I am signing Assembly Bill 962.
This measure would require vendors of handgun ammunition to keep a log of information on
handgun ammunition sales, store ammunition in a safe and secure manner, and require the faceto-
face transfer of ammunition sales.
Although I have previously vetoed legislation similar to this measure, local governments have
demonstrated that requiring ammunition vendors to keep records on ammunition sales improves
public safety. These records have allowed law enforcement to arrest and prosecute persons who
have no business possessing firearms and ammunition: gang members, violent parolees, second
and third strikers, and even people previously serving time in state prison for murder. Utilized
properly, this type of information is invaluable for keeping communities safe and preventing
dangerous felons from committing crimes with firearms.
Moreover, this type of recordkeeping is no more intrusive for law abiding citizens than similar
laws governing pawnshops or the sale of cold medicine. Unfortunately, even the most successful
local program is flawed; without a statewide law, felons can easily skirt the record keeping
requirements of one city by visiting another. Assembly Bill 962 will fix this problem by
mandating that all ammunition vendors in the state keep records on ammunition sales.
As Governor, I have sought the appropriate balance between public safety and the right to keep
and bear arms. I have signed important public safety measures to regulate the sale and transfer
of .50 caliber rifles, instituted the California Firearms License Check program, and promoted the
use of microstamping technology in handguns. I have also vetoed many pieces of legislation that
sought to place unreasonable restrictions and burdens on firearms dealers and ammunition
vendors. Assembly Bill 962 reasonably regulates access to ammunition and improves public
safety without placing undue burdens on consumers.
For these reasons, I am pleased to sign this bill.
Sincerely,
Arnold Schwarzenegger

I really did not want to move when I retire.

That is a shame. Too many illegal aliens in California. But you will just have to make trips to Arizona and start stocking up. I have boxes of ammo I have been hoarding away since the 70s. And now I am starting to stock up on lead shot. I cut back my shooting to about half a round of skeet a week. And maybe a round or two of trap a month. That still keeps me tuned up. I recently put in a range in my basement. I had bought a bullet trap at an auction this summer, so I put it up this week. The range is about 30 feet long and is great for my Ruger Single Six. If I need to do any shooting further out, I can always go to my club where it has a 200 yard range. Sorry about your bad luck. I remember back when I was in California and it was the neatest state to be in. Now it is just a mess out there. Sorry about your luck.

I remember similar legislation that came into being all over the U.S. after Kennedy was assassinated. When they banned mail-ordering guns they also added a requirement concerning the purchasing of some ammunition. I was a kid and my dad owned a big country general store where he sold everything from mule collars to Royal Crown hair pomade and Hoyt's Cologne. But, what he sold that most interested me was ammunition. He stocked .410 through 12 gauge, and .22 cartridges. I remember well him having to log in the name and some "pertinent" information on everyone who bought .22 ammo, or any pistol or rifle cartridges. This lasted only a few years, as I recall, then went away.

Sad news about this new legislation, but not surprising at all, considering the source.

May God bless America and those who defend her.
