I occasionally (2%) of the time, get double fires. upon dissassembly, what should I look for? This makes for interesting dove shooting. the gun is an old Spanish "Winner" SxS.
Thanks,

upon dissassembly, what should I look for? Another double gun...Geo Don't know what a "Winner" is, but I suspect it is about like some of the cheap spanish guns I've owned and parted ways with over the years. Your gun is probably doubling 'sometimes' because the improperly hardened sears have worn to the point one slips upon the impact of the other barrel firing. JMHO

The most common cause of 'double fires' is not having held the gun tight to your shoulder pocket allowing it to bounce back into your finger. You might want to try a bit firmer hold & see if the problem persists.

tw might have the answer, particularly if your gun has a single trigger. The same can occur with double trggers when pulling the front trigger with you 2nd finger behind the first. Don't do that. If Geo and Lou are correct you may need to see a good doublegun smith to price a fix before you give up? Best to you!

I think tw and ben-t have it. It happened to me with a sst at awkward high angle and I knew when it happened it was me, not the gun.

There can of course be a number of things. Is it 1 or 2 triggered, you haven't stated this as yet. Does it always do this when firing the same bbl first. I once had an old J Stevens which would occasionally double if you pulled the rear trigger first, but it never did it when firing normal order of front first. Turned out the pin holes were worn in the sears & the left one set slightly lower. If the tail ends over the trigger blades happened to get together pulling the rear trigger would lift both sears. Was a pretty simple fix. When you get the stock off with everything else still or re assembled you just have to look for anything which doesn't appear right. May be easy to find, but may take a lot of scrutiny. Of course as mentioned it may not be the "Gun" doing it.

I'd look for a better gun.
