Does the Winchester 101 early gun(1966) have a auto safety ? And how did they disable the ejectors ? Thanks for any help.

No Model 101 has a auto safely, Thank GOD!
The ejectors may, I said "may", be disabled by removing the ejector hammer springs in the forearm iron.

No, but I'm not real sure what happens when they are removed. Never saw the need to do so.

My Win. 20 ga 101 has a manual safety, serial number 204626. Has never been taken apart and has been that way since I bought it new in 1966. What it has that I really like are mechanical triggers, compared to a lot of others that have inertia ones.

David, your gun was the 4626th. 20 gauge frame made. All 20, 28 and .410 were in the 200000 to 299999 serial range. Most all 101s, except some target guns and maybe a few others, had a mechanical trigger.

Don, thanks for the information. Is the manual safety also something that was different? I haven't seen many to look at and compare. I had this gun ordered when I was in the service in Germany and the man who ran the Rod and Gun Club ordered it right from Japan, I just told him I wanted a 20 ga. with 26" barrels imp.cyl/mod. Came through with a gorgeous piece of wood and the not so nice polyurethane finish.

JDW: I have 101's with the polyurathane finish; I don't like it either but it's a skeet gun--3-barrel set--and I want to keep it original in case I ever want to sell it. But I also have a Citori that came in with a polyurathane (after-market) spray-on finish, finish even got into the checkering, both butt stock and forend. It took me nearly a full day just to get the old finish off. I then refinished it and put a leather covered pad on it. Now it is one of my favorites. Just an idea...

To disable the ejectors on a Winchester 101 20 gauge over and under remove the factory springs and install a set of springs from Brownells that are much weaker then the original springs and then the shells will just be lifted out after being fired. The Brownells springs come in a kit and you cut them to fit. Getting the factory springs out is a little tricky, they are under a great deal of pressure, wear your safety glasses when you are working with these springs. Jent
